Blessi the Camo Dude

One of the boarders placed her hat on Blessi's head.  He thought he was quite the stylin' dude.  Unfortunately the sun was very low and shining directly into the arena so the contrast is not as good as it could be.

Icelandic Horse Cookies

Stacey Kimmel featured the cutest Icelandic horse head cookies assembled out of Pepperridge Farms Milano cookies vanilla wafers, icing, Tootsie Rolls, etc on her blog Behind the Bit.  I made a herd of them for  Horse Club meeting over the weekend.  The cookies were a huge hit--whimsical, delicious, lots of chocolate--what could be better.  If I made a mistake, I just added more icing as mane since these were suppose to be Icelandic horses.

Here is the link to Stacey's blog which is always interesting.

And to the Savory Experiments web page for the assembly directions.

How to play polo

Here is the best video that I found on how to hold the polo mallet and the physics of the polo swing, delivered by Steve Thompson who is a polo coach in Dubai.  (Hum, I just discovered that my description echoes the original video description--no plagiarism intended--it's just an accurate description of the video contents.)  Enjoy!

Blessi Learns to Play "Polo"

Last week, I found some polo mallets for sale at $3 apiece at Goodwill.  At that price, Blessi is fated to learn how to play polo.  Over the past few days, I have been working with Blessi on the ground and in the saddle.

Of course there was no polo ball for sale so I had to experiment.  When I hit a jolly ball (about the size and heaviness of a soccer ball) from the saddle, it only goes two feet and Blessi outwalks it.  A dog ball got stuck in the arena sand but a wooden croquet ball was just right.

Lish was kind enough to trot Blessi around and play polo.  The two are quite a lovely pair except Blessi did not always want to keep trotting.  I suspect he thought Lish might fall off (not that Lish was going to fall just that she leaned to hit the ball) and was trying to help---or he was just low energy tonight.

As you can see by the photo to the left, Blessi was willing to lean way, way, way over to give Lish a few extra inches to be able and hit the ball.
