My family is from Puerto Rico, and I owned a paso fino mare. Paso Fino horses are also capable of Paso Cortó, Paso Largo and Andadura, the Icelandic is very similar to Paso Cortó which covers more ground but similar 4 beat gait. I love Icelandics. They and Paso Cortó and Paso Largo are much better for trail rides. Paso Fino and Tennessee walker are more suited for competitions where yet humans can judge them by comparing temperament, bloodlines, and unique specimens of the breed. I love them all. Icelandics were fairly well known as a breed in the US from 1880 to 1910. And then they basically disappeared until folks started importing again in the 1960s.Blessiownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14282656776930461678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3615216402240448053.post-29401013804366982672019-06-22T08:51:46.150-07:002019-06-22T08:51:46.150-07:00Thank you, Pamela, I really enjoyed reading that....Thank you, Pamela, I really enjoyed reading that.
Strange how the odd Icelandic horse crept into the world now and again, was admired and loved and almost never heard of.
Alison, SwitzerlandAlisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03474721012924488348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3615216402240448053.post-17267775275213754792018-03-10T21:34:33.016-08:002018-03-10T21:34:33.016-08:00Sorry, it took me so long to figure out how to lea...Sorry, it took me so long to figure out how to leave comments on my own blog. Blogspot changes some of its options. Anyway, I have done a lot of incorrect stuff with Blessi. It has been a life time learning process. I tried the grazing muzzle with Blessi. It was like giving him a Rubic's cube to play with. He just got faster and faster at getting it off. By the end, he would walk several steps, drop to the ground, and use his front leg to rub the muzzle off. Now he is in a mostly bare pasture with just enough grass for him to nibble a bit during the day. Some Icelandic silver dapples horses that I know don't seem to have any serious eye issues; a few require continuous treatment; and one silver bay was quietly put down because of quality of life. I wouldn't necessarily automatically eliminate a silver dapple but you would want you vet to pay particular attention to the eyes of the horse in an pre-purchase. Good luck in your search.Blessiownerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14282656776930461678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3615216402240448053.post-51010008380145436152018-03-08T19:08:56.799-08:002018-03-08T19:08:56.799-08:00Quite helpful...I’m having to look for a new horse...Quite helpful...I’m having to look for a new horse, and have now removed one from the list.
