Icelandic and Gypsy Vanner Cross

Here's a short clip of Loki from Silvercrest Farm at the beginning of his under saddle training.  He is a cross between an Icelandic and a Gypsy Vanner.

Icelandic Shetland Cross

Ever wonder what an Icelandic horse crossed with a Shetland would look like?  Here's cute Lando.  I wonder if he is gaited.  Note I am not advocating crossing Icelandics with other breeds.

Another Icelandic-Quarter Horse Cross

I am not advocating crossing Icelandics with any other breed.  I am interested in what said cross looks like.  Pyrite or Pie is an Icelandic Quarter horse cross.  He seems to have inherited the best from both sire and dam, including a copy of the gaited gene. 

PS I know nothing about this trainer or horse other than what shows up in the video.

Cross--Tennessee Walker and Draft

I do know of one Iceland-Draft cross, but I don't have video.  Instead, here is an example of a Tennessee Walker and Draft cross.  Theoretically such a cross would always carry the genetic potential to gait since all TWs tested (at least per studies so far) have been AA.  So AA X CC = 100% AC.  Of course the quality of the gait will be impacted by conformation, training, native ability etc.

This is an interesting cross.  Note I am not advocating for crossing pure bred Icelandics with other breeds.

Icelandic Andalusian Cross

I don't support crossing Icelandics with other breeds.  But I am always curious as to what the cross would look like.  Here is Sugar, who is a 14.0 hand rose gray cross between an Icelandic and an Andalusian.

An Icelandic-Gypsy Vanner Driving Team

Here are Duke and Daisy, a really cute matched piebald driving team, who happen to be a cross between a Gypsy Vanner and Icelandic horses.  They are full siblings, aged 4 and 5.
Disclaimer:  I know nothing about these horses or their owners.  I am not an advocate for any purebred cross just trying to accumulate instances of "What happens if you cross and Icelandic with....."  You can see more examples by checking out search labels at the bottom of this screen.

Icelandic and Rocky Mountain Cross

Here are two Icelandic - Rocky  Mountain Crosses.   This particular set of cross breeds are adorable!  There are "rural rumors" that the Rocky Mountain and Kentucky Mountain breeds may have some Icelandic ancestry.  There were some Icelandics imported to the US in the 1880 to 1920 time frame.

Icelandic Gypsy Vanner Cross

I don't recommend crossing Icelandics with other breeds.   But in the what if category, here is a Gypsy Vanner and Icelandic cross named Loki.  The horse is in Hawaii, hence the sweat marks. 

Icelandic crossed with warmblood

 Previous, I had displayed a video of an Icelandic X Warmblood cross named Tilly that really could jump.  Tilly was only about 13.3 hands.  That video was taken down so I have found another video to replace it.  Again, I am not promoting the crossing of Icelandics with other breeds.  The above video shows an Icelandic X Warmblood cross named Penny who has just started jumping.  She is much rangier but is still gaited. 

Saddlebred by Icelandic Cross

Here is Iceman, an Icelandic by Saddlebred cross, owned by Bo Wright Stables.  Wright is riding Iceman in a number of speed racking and single footing competitions (all seem to be kegshod or wearing horses shoes of usual weight) and winning blue ribbons.  Considering the competitions are in Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and other speed racking states,  Wright and Iceman, 14.2 hands, are doing a fantastic job competing against the Saddlebreds and other, bigger  gaited breeds.   Go Iceman!  Note I don't recommend cross breeding Icelandics but this is a successful cross, which is probably why Iceman is a breeding stallion at Bo Wright Stables. 

Icelandic Quarter Horse Cross

Once again--not advocating crossing the Icelandic horse with other breeds but here is what an Icelandic crossed with a Quarter Horse looks like.  Interestingly I had an email conversation with somebody about an item on Craigslist.  He mentioned that a ranch (I don't know the name of it)  in Idaho was deliberately crossing Icelandics with Quarter horses because the visitors at the dude ranch liked riding the cross so much.  Makes you wonder why they just don't get a few purebred Icelandic.  :-)

What Does a Missouri Foxtrotter and Icelandic Cross Look Like

Just for fun I have decided to start collecting videos of what Icelandics look like when crossed with another breed.  I'm not advocating crossing the Icelandic with anything but it happens.  Here is an example of a Missouri Foxtrotter-Icelandic cross.

What does a Friesian Icelandic cross look like

Normally Icelandic crosses just look like funny looking Icelandics.  But here is a Friesian Icelandic cross from the Netherlands I think.  It seems like the mare got the cuteness of the Icelandic modifying the stateliness of the Friesian.   I would love to have this horse--not that I promote crossing Icelandic and Friesians.  However it is interesting to speculate what the cross would be called--Iceian--Icehollandic--- Frieslandics?  What do you think?
